Seed samples of 23 fennel lines used as breeding material were tested by the deep freeze

blotter technique. Among the 19 fungal species recorded, Alternaria alternata was the most

common, detected from all the lines with an av. incidence of 99.7%. Aspergillus flavus was

recorded from 5 lines. Fusarium moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] was more common than F.

oxysporum. The results suggest that fennel seed should be treated before sowing to ensure a

good crop.
